Gastronomic Curtain
Singapore Orchard Road
Developed originally for an international ideas competition exploring the future of food culture and wellness, this project imagines a mixed-use podium and tower in the heart of Singapore’s Orchard Road precinct. Its architectural identity—a sculptural “gastronomic curtain”—serves as a theatrical invitation into a curated world of culinary and well-being experiences. The narrative resonates strongly with Bean Buro’s capacity to weave art, hospitality and architectural refinement into environments that feel both intimate and cosmopolitan.
A Sculptural Curtain as Urban Landmark
The exterior is defined by a sweeping bronze-mesh veil that wraps the podium like a delicate piece of fabric suspended in motion. This porous, shimmering surface allows interior light to spill outward at night, creating a soft, luminous beacon within the dense urban context. The curtain moves subtly along the façade, creating moments of transparency and opacity that hint at the programme within. The effect is neither flashy nor ornamental—rather, it is an elegant gesture that gives the building a sense of identity anchored in texture, light, and cultural storytelling.
Orchestrating an Interior of Culinary Theatre
Beyond the sculptural façade lies a generous, double-height wellness atrium containing a collection of gastronomy-driven spaces: a fine dining chamber, wellness tearoom, lounge bars, organic cafés, and mezzanine terraces that overlook the atrium floor. Each space is treated as a distinct sensory environment, unified by material warmth and precision. Soft timbers, leather upholstery, tactile stone counters, crafted lighting features and curated artworks create an atmosphere of refinement without extravagance. This layering of texture and sensory richness is at the heart of Bean Buro’s human-centred design approach.
Wellness as Architecture, Not Amenity
The concept places well-being at the core of architectural experience. Natural ventilation pockets, lush micro-gardens, water features, daylight penetrations and acoustically-comfortable materials transform the space into a sanctuary despite its urban location. Movement through the building is choreographed with the subtlety of a wellness ritual—progressive reveal, compressed and expanded spaces, quiet thresholds, and curated lighting. This holistic integration of wellness with hospitality gives developers a powerful marketing story: a building that nurtures lifestyle from morning to night.
An Experience-Led Identity with Developer Appeal
The project is structured to generate compelling visual content for marketing: the glowing bronze curtain façade, the immersive dining atrium, the multi-level terraces, and the sculptural bar elements are all inherently expressive. As a concept designed for a major international competition and submitted to an established hotel & property awards programme, it carries the credibility of global standards while offering the emotional resonance of a crafted lifestyle narrative.
