Bean Buro provided initial concepts to Cova for this restaurant in the open space of the luxury mall Pacific Place.
The main design concepts for the restaurant are driven by customer experiences. Its magic lie within the refined organization of space to create dynamic views points for its customers – to see and be seen in a highly articulated and elegant manner.
The concept of ‘layering’ creates intimate zones of privacy, while keeping the overall space to be dynamic and open. The subtle changes in floor levels provide a variegated topography while conforming to maximized servicing and consuming. The result is a choreographed filmic space, a place that stimulates possibilities for encounters with voyeuristic viewpoints that blurs the boundaries between inside and outside, customers and passers-by, formal and informal.
Such viewing organisations resemble the voyeuristic concepts of European cities (e.g. qualities of Italian piazzas, or French boulevard cafes) - where occupants in a shared space are simultaneously performing and viewing, creating theatrical dynamics.
